A digital camera or sunglasses

Written on 1:35 AM by SYED MUBALLIGH

How often have you found yourself saying, “If your eyes had only seen what I’ve seen”? Slip on a pair of $100 sunglasses from ThinkGeek.com, and you’ll never have to utter those words again.

A 1.3-megapixel digital camera embedded in the frame can snap a picture of 1,280 by 1,024 pixels when you push the shutter button above the right temple.

If lifting your hand to your glasses is too revealing, there’s also a quarter-size remote that activates the shutter from your pocket.

The lens is small by necessity, leading to a tiny bit of blurring on the edges of the image, but the sensor can still take well-exposed pictures inside during the day.

If someone asks why the black plastic frame is a bit thick, just explain that there is an MP3 player built in. Two earbuds dangle from the ear rests, and you switch tracks with the same buttons that control the camera’s shutter.

A flash drive also encased in the frame can hold 1 gigabyte of music and photos, which can be downloaded through a U.S.B. port.

Finally, the polarized flip-up lenses even tame the glare of the sun.

Wii 2 and Xbox the Third hitting in 2010?

Written on 5:18 AM by SYED MUBALLIGH

Those pesky analysts are at it again, and this time it's serious: Evan Wilson of Pacific Crest Securities says we can expect a sequel to the Wii in 2010, to be followed by a new Xbox later that year. Obviously it's something on the minds of all three of the gaming hardware giants -- in fact, Gizmondo probably has 2010 in its sights as well -- but there's really no telling at this point how accurate this rumor is. What we have heard are some conjectures before now that Nintendo has a shorter life cycle in mind for its graphics-impaired Wii. Also, Microsoft obviously made a huge bet this generation on hitting a year before the competition, and has done alright for itself in the process, so Microsoft might be looking for a repeat. There's no rumor yet on Sony's PS4 plans, but while the company has its hands full at the moment with its purported 2008 comeback, we're sure they're keeping this all in mind. Wilson also predicts a new Nintendo DS and PSP in 2010, meaning any way you slice it youre're going need a second mortgage.

Fuji Television demonstrates visible light communications system

Written on 3:36 AM by SYED MUBALLIGH

It's not like visible light communications is the new kid on the block or anything, but Fuji Television was busy showcasing a new flavor of the technology at Inter BEE 2007 that could assist deaf / hearing impaired individuals when watching TV. In the demonstration, a LED-backlit LCD TV displayed content while simultaneously beaming out information sans wires to a nearby PDA; the handheld was able to receive the textual data and display words to accompany the on-screen action. Not surprisingly, the communications system was developed by NEC, and it even supported selective distribution in order to transmit the correct information to the appropriate individual. No mention was made of an expected commercialization date, but feel free to check out a couple more shots of the setup after the break.

Nikon D60

Nikon D60
The Nikon D60 is an inexpensive 10 MP DSLR that comes with an excellent 18-55mm VR lens for $750. It was a announced in January, 2008.The Nikon D60 is a replacement for the almost identical D40x.The Nikon D60 is designed to simplify camera operation and allow the photographer to concentrate on taking pictures. The camera’s simple, user-friendly design includes a reduced number of buttons and a combined monitor and information display. A 2.5-inch LCD screen presents information using an easy to understand graphic user interface, with three types of presentation style to suit all users. The symbols and numbers in the display rotate through 90 degrees, presenting information in the correct orientation according to how the camera is being held. The D60 also includes a new feature that turns off the LCD monitor screen automatically when the viewfinder is in use.

The Nikon D60 standard kit comes with a high-performance VR-NIKKOR lens, the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR. Compact and lightweight, the lens offers 3x zoom with a versatile focal length range of 27mm to 82.5mm (35mm-format equivalent). Nikon’s advanced Vibration Reduction technology combats the effect of camera shake, allowing the use of shutter speeds that are up to three times slower than is practical with non-VR lenses. And with its sophisticated, leather-toned design, the lens looks as good as the pictures it takes. “The D60 is intended to put high quality photography within the reach of ordinary consumers.” said Toru Uematsu, Manager Prosumer Products at Nikon Europe B.V “The combination of precision technology and carefree convenience places the D60 in a unique position of offering compact camera users the chance to move up to digital SLR with ease and security.”

The D60 is capable of use in a range of lighting conditions due to a wide sensitivity range of ISO 100 to ISO 1600 and offers vivid colour reproduction with clear, sharp results.. For convenient use in places where flash photography is not allowed, the camera will set the sensitivity automatically for the best results . The camera’s built-in Speedlight produces excellent balanced results thanks to Nikon’s sophisticated i-TTL flash system, and also allows the use of additional remote-controlled Speedlights.

The Nikon D60 is a "sucker" camera sold mostly to people who are not professional photographers, but who are impressed by meaningless megapixels. Megapixels have nothing to do with picture quality. The less expensive D40 is the same thing as the D60, but better. The D40 is the professional's vacation camera. It's what I take when I'm on vacation or with family, too.The D60 exists to allow Nikon to sell a camera in the $750 price range to less experienced people who feel better spending $750 on a camera than spending $470 on the superior D40. If you're smart enough to be researching cameras from people like me who are here to help you instead of trying to sell you an expensive camera, just get the D40.
